Lemongrass powder gives you the bright, citrusy flavour of fresh lemongrass in a form that keeps for months and stirs straight into drinks and food. This guide covers how to use it, what it costs per kg in India, our bulk rates from 5 kg, and what to check so you're buying good-quality, food-grade powder.
What Is Lemongrass Powder?
Lemongrass powder is made by drying the leaves and stalks of the lemongrass plant and grinding them fine. It has a fresh, lemony aroma with a mild grassy note, without the sourness of actual lemon. It's naturally caffeine-free. Our lemongrass is sourced from farmers in Uttarakhand.
Lemongrass is also sold as whole dried leaves and as a tea cut. The powder is the easiest to use when you want the flavour mixed right into a drink or dish, with nothing to strain out.

How to Use Lemongrass Powder
In Herbal Infusions
Stir ½ teaspoon into a cup of hot water, steep for 3 to 5 minutes and strain through a fine strainer or cloth. Add honey or a slice of ginger if you like. It also blends well with other herbal infusions, such as hibiscus or butterfly pea flower.
In Chai
A pinch of lemongrass powder added while the chai boils gives it a light citrus lift. Many Indian households already add fresh lemongrass leaves to chai, and the powder is a convenient year-round substitute.
In Cold Drinks
Add a small amount to lemonade, iced infusions, shikanji or mocktails. Since it doesn't dissolve completely, mix it with a little warm water first, let it sit for a few minutes, then strain it into the drink.
In Cooking
Lemongrass is a key flavour in Thai and Southeast Asian curries, soups and stir-fries. Add the powder to curry pastes, marinades, soups, rice dishes and spice rubs. Start with about ½ teaspoon per dish and adjust to taste.
In Baking and Desserts
A small amount works in cookies, cakes, syrups and sorbets, where it adds a citrus note without extra acidity.

Why Bulk Orders Cost Less per kg
For bulk orders, we buy directly from our partner farmers in Uttarakhand in large volumes, and they give us a better rate for that quantity. We pass that saving on to you. For small packs, we buy in smaller lots at the farmers' regular rate, and each pack also needs its own pouch, label, sealing and shipping.
If you use lemongrass powder regularly at home, the 1 kg pack is the better value. For a café, kitchen or brand, the bulk rates make sense from 5 kg.
Choosing Quality Lemongrass Powder
- Food-grade sourcing from a seller with a food licence (FSSAI in India)
- Colour: an even pale to olive green; very brown or dull powder is usually old or over-dried
- Aroma: a clear, fresh lemony smell when you open the pack; a weak or musty smell means the flavour has faded
- Fineness: evenly ground, without long fibrous strands
- Dryness: free-flowing, not clumped, since clumps can mean moisture
- Protective packaging: sealed against air, moisture and light
For bulk orders, it's reasonable to ask for a sample before committing to a large quantity.
Storing Lemongrass Powder
Keep it in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, and use a dry spoon each time. Ground herbs lose aroma faster than whole ones, so buy a quantity you'll use within a few months.

About ½ teaspoon per cup of hot water. Steep for 3 to 5 minutes and strain.
